How it works

Your VIN is decoded by the NHTSA vPIC database to confirm the model year, make and model. We then query the official NHTSA recalls service for that vehicle and show each campaign in plain language: the affected part, what can go wrong, and how the dealer fixes it. If a recall is serious enough that the government says the vehicle should not be driven, or should be parked away from buildings, it is flagged in red.

What a recall means

A recall is issued when a vehicle or part does not meet a federal safety standard or has a safety defect. The manufacturer must fix the problem free of charge. A “Do not drive” or “Park outside” warning means the risk is immediate, for example a fire or steering hazard, and you should contact a Ford dealer before driving the car.

NHTSA lists recalls by year, make and model, so it shows every recall that applies to a vehicle like yours. It cannot tell you whether your specific car has already had a given recall repaired — only a Ford dealer, using your full VIN in Ford’s own system, can confirm the completed-repair status.
